You know those annoying people…  The ones who reach out to “pick your brain”?

The ones who schedule a free session with you with no intent whatsoever to hire you?  The ones that waste your time and make you feel frustrated???

Yea.  Those ones.

By adding 3 easy to add steps for people to go through before they ever get me on a call, I’ve managed to only have a handful of “tire-kickers” since then!

Now, 99% of the people I talk to are ready to hire me and we just need to see if we are a good fit.

That’s an amazing feeling!

No more wasted time, energy and effort on people who just aren’t ready to work with me!

What’s the magic?  I’ll fill you in!

Step 1:  Only book through a calendar.

I’ve got my calendar set up with calendly.  There’s other options out there but for my needs, a free calendly account does the trick.  Be sure to sync it with your Google calendar.  That way, it makes you unavailable for other calls during that time.  Also, you can add other events to your Google calendar and then calendly won’t double book you.

Mine is set up so that my future clients can only schedule up to two weeks in advance.  Also, since I’m NOT a morning person, I’ve set it up so that the first time I’m available is 2pm.  Win.

Step #2:  Get information from them up front

If someone reaches out to me through email (rarely) or a DM on social media (all the time), I’ll chat with them a bit..  But once they want to talk business, I send them to my contact page to schedule a time to talk.

It goes something like this, “I’d love to chat with you about your business and your goals and how I might be able to help.  Head on over to my contact page (link) to schedule a time so that I can devote 100% of my attention on our conversation.”

What makes my contact page different?

Before they can schedule their meeting, they have to fill out a form for me to get some more information.

How does that change things?  It makes them really think about where they are at in their business and what it is they expect to get out of our call.  Of course, I always give advice on my free sessions but I’m sure to ask for the sale if I think we’d be a good fit.

The survey lets them know I mean business when it comes to business.  You can set this up with a free tool called JotForm.  Just make sure you set the “thank you” page to your calendar so they can book their time.

Step #3:  Pre-qualify them with your copy

On your contact page, have some copy up front that lets them know who you work with but most importantly who you don’t work with.

At the moment (subject to change ha ha), I have 3 bullet points that “disqualify” the tire-kickers and 7 bullet points that let them know they are in the right place (if they are).

I know this sounds super-simple but since I’ve put that copy in, I’ve only had 1-2 tire kickers a month!  What a relief!!

There you go!  Those 3 simple steps have truly been a game-changer in my business!
